Dallas gets intriguing defense in Cowboys-Bills exchange.

The 2023 offseason is going well for the Dallas Cowboys. They had their second consecutive double-digit win season since their mid-1990s dynasty.

However, a dismal Divisional Round performance against the San Francisco 49ers continued an awful pattern.

Dallas last competed in the NFC Championship Game in 1995 after winning the Super Bowl. This offseason, Jerry Jones actively upgraded the club to end that streak.

The Cowboys traded well in free agency. Stephon Gilmore from the Indianapolis Colts improved their secondary. Gilmore will start well opposite All-Pro Trevon Diggs.

Houston Texans wide receiver Brandin Cooks joined the offense. He will give Dak Prescott another proven pass-catcher alongside CeeDee Lamb.

The Cowboys are talented. However, several places need improvement. Dallas' 2022 defensive tackles were unproductive. They could return to trading to improve.

Ed Oliver of the Buffalo Bills was a possible Cowboys trade target. Oliver, 2023 first-round selection Mazi Smith, and Osa Odighizuwa could improve a weakness.

How might a Cowboys-Bills deal work? Dallas could trade Oliver and a 2024 sixth-round pick for a third and seventh-round pick in the NFL Draft.

Trading Oliver would save the Bills $10.7 million on his final year of rookie contract. That money might get DeAndre Hopkins or another offensive weapon.

However, trading Oliver may open up another defense hole for the Bills. Houston's 2019 first-round pick would address the Cowboys' biggest issue.

He hasn't lived up to draft expectations, but signing him would show the Cowboys' commitment to defense

The Cowboys must improve its defensive line interior if they want to win the Super Bowl. Otherwise, they provide opponents a game plan.
